Diarmuid is the creative mind behind S Twist Wool.
S Twist Wool is an Irish hand spinning company with its operations split between Tipperary and Dublin.
His wool is collected from local farmers in the Kilkenny and Tipperary region. The wool is washed using a natural fermentation method. This ensures that no harmful chemicals are used. All the washing is done by hand and the wool is dried in the open air.
Diarmuid is a native of County Tipperary and is only too delighted to share his knowledge with all of you. Keep scrolling to find out about Diarmuid at Woollinn 2020.

Diarmuid Commins – A Dyer’s Walk Through The Countryside
When: Friday AM | Event Type: Workshop, Other | Duration: 3 hours
Talk and Demonstration with completed samples for discussion.
What dye bearing plants are available for the natural dyer while out for a walk? We take a look at common Irish dye plants and mordants, their history, and how to use them to make our own unique, naturally dyed yarns.
Diarmuid will bring along dyed samples and get everyone interacting with the pieces, so the effects of (for example) different mordants can be appreciated in the pieces.
Students will leave with a knowledge and appreciation of the natural dye process, so they can begin experimenting as soon as they return home (No dyeing will take place during the talk).
